Invitation to creative travel to japan 2017

Creative travel to japan international cultural exchange committee, together with the permanent delegation of japan to unesco request the pleasure of you for the event 'creative travel to japan 2017' commemorating international year of sustainable tourism for development 2017. it will be held from monday 4,1 pm to friday 8 september 2017,2 pm at unesco headquarters.

2017 exhibition will portray travel to japan based around the theme of ‘inheriting traditions and creating a new culture’. it will be shown through the eyes of photographers, film-makers and exponents of traditional crafts and cultures. on tuesday 5 and wednesday 6, a japanese confectionery demonstration, “shamisen” (japanese traditional instrument) performance, green tea tasting, etc. will take place from 16:30. the exhibition will be open to the public until 18:00 on these 2 days.

in the framework of this event, special screenings of japanese award-winning animation films which are world-renowned examples of innovation and the diversity of artistic expression will be organized.

in the late 16th century, after the death of nobunaga oda, hideyoshi
toyotomi comes to power. the age of war is about to end, but toyoto-
mi's rule makes life difficult for his people. meanwhile, monk senko
ikenobo, a master of flower arrangement, prays for peace in the world
and tries to give hope to the people through the art of flower arrange-
ment. he makes good friends with rikyu, a tea master, who is one of
the most influential masters of chanoyu (japanese tea ceremony). when
toyotomi forces rikyu to commit hara-kiri, monk senko challenges
him. it’s a story of a man who faces off against the ruler of the time, not
by a sword (=power) but flowers (=heart).
